The International Law Association (ILA), founded in Brussels in 1873, is a worldwide organization dedicated to the study, clarification, and progressive development of public and private international law. Its core aim is to promote international understanding and strengthen respect for international legal principles. Over time, the ILA has grown into a global network, with more than 5,000 members organized in over 65 branches worldwide and maintains consultative status with several United Nations specialized agencies.
The Association brings together professionals and experts from a broad range of backgrounds, including legal practice, academia, government, the judiciary, and various commercial and institutional sectors. Its objectives are pursued through scholarly research, professional exchange, and collaborative discussion. A central feature of the ILA’s work is its biennial international conferences, which provide a global forum for exchanging ideas and advancing international law.
There are currently 20 active ILA Committees.
