Closing Ceremony

After the ILA Headquarters Plenary on International Law as a Tool of Resistance, the 82nd Biennial ILA Conference came to a close with a ceremony reflecting on the work, discussions and exchanges of the past few days.

A key part of the ceremony was the adoption of the resolutions of seven ILA Committees, covering a wide range of pressing issues in international law:

  • Committee on International Tax Law
  • Committee on Submarine Cables and Pipelines
  • Committee on Global Health Law
  • Committee on the Rights of Children in Migration
  • Committee on Use of Force – Military Action with Consent
  • Committee on International Monetary Law
  • Committee on International Protection of Consumers

The ceremony also featured speeches by the ILA Scholars, celebrating the next generation of international law scholars and their contributions to the field.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the transfer of the ILA Presidency from Maria Gavouneli to August Reinisch, marking an important moment of transition for the Association and its continued work in international law.

And with one conference coming to an end, the next one is already on the horizon! The Singapore Branch of the International Law Association introduced itself as the host of the 83rd Biennial ILA Conference in 2028, inviting the international law community to Singapore.

A fitting conclusion to an inspiring week in Vienna, and the beginning of the next chapter for the ILA!
